Undulating beside the Bay of Naples, this UNESCO World Heritage city is a maze of narrow streets and cable cars. Although it has an incredible array of churches and monuments, it’s the sheer energy, pulsating life, and buzz of Vespas that really make it exciting.
At first you could mistake this for chaos, but given time you’ll see there’s method to the madness. The stunning, curved portico of the Royal Palace. The perfectly thin pizzas which originated here. The red pepper trinkets to ward off the evil eye adorning practically every old town doorway. All are crafted to perfection.
While all this goes on at street level, below is Underground Naples – a series of tunnels you can visit and even a Graeco-Roman theater which you stop at before emerging into someone’s house!
Head up to the Posillipo area for stunning views of the city and Vesuvius in the distance. The volcano itself can be visited and looking down from it towards Pompeii and Herculaneum gives context to the thousands of artifacts now on display in the city’s National Archaeological Museum.
As for accommodations, Booking.com has a wealth of hotels near Naples Airport, old town B&Bs, city center apartments and more to help you make the most of your stay.
Naples is one big open-air market. A city with a soul.
Naples is one big open-air market. A city with a soul. Maybe not to everyone's taste. Full of motives for photographing life. Always interesting exhibitions in historical and religious buildings. A theater with a superb opera repertoire.

Very interesting, very crowded.
Very interesting, very crowded. Lots of eateries in the historic district but most of them not good quality. Be careful of prices and change. A lot of attempted cheating. Follow your host and tour book recommendations. Initially questioned why we stopped here (after 2 weeks in Sicily), but really glad we did. Waited 2 hours to eat at Ancient Pizza. Experience worth it but Pizza wasn’t. View of Naples Harbor from stop on on/off bus spectacular. Food at Volga excellent. Naples Duomo different than others. Walk, walk, walk. We toured Pompei and Amalfi from Salerno. Much saner city.

The central train station was great and the archeological museum was wonderful. However, I won't return to Naples. It was so dirty, covered in trash, smelly and overal just unwelcoming. I have traveled to Rome, Milan, Florence/Tuscany, Venice, Aosta and heard Naples was unclean compared to them, but I was honestly shocked at the disgusting state of the city. Very little pride from the citizens living there. I would strongly suggest staying near Pompeii or Herculaneum instead of commuting.

• Almost every place takes card, I used cash but was surprised to learn even fruit stands accepted card. I didn't need the cash at all.
• Most hotels and booking venues charge a separate fee that must be pain in cash on arrival, but it's very low.
• Food and drinks are delicious and cheap
• Best to make reservations for certain restaurants or eat a bit earlier (7pm) or later (10pm) if you don't have a reservation. Most restaurants will take you in you just have to wait a while.
• Try to stay near city center. Everything is very walkable, not once did i use public transportation.
• Try as much local food as possible. You don't need a 4 star restaurants to have amazing food in Naples. It's amazing no matter where you go.

I really liked Naples.
I really liked Naples. I had no preconceptions and was pleasantly surprised. It's big. Noisy. Grimy. A bit delapidated. But it has real energy. It felt authentic. We were there mid April so it was ideal weather for wandering the streets. Not too hot, and not cold by UK standards. We walked a lot. In three days we spent two exploring the city, downinn Campari spritzes and eating pizza, and I'm not big on pizza. (Is it so much better than in a decent London pizzeria e.g Franco Manca? Not really, it's still tomato on toast, but it is cheaper and more fun). The people were lovely. You'll come across brusqueness, of course, but mostly they were kind and welcoming and in the tourist hotspots most people talk a little English is your Italian is as poor as mine. And you can visit Pompeii, the Amalfi coast and the islands of Capri and Ischia very easily by train or ferry. It's not as beautiful as Rome or Florence – nowhere near – but in some ways all the better for that. It doesn't feel like a museum piece, it's a proper city with proud Maradona-obsessed inhabitants.

They say "See Naples and die" What a chaotic, colourful, noisy dirty and wonderful city. The ancient world meets the modern world and rich and poor, young and old are all mixed up together in a sprawling mass of humanity. We did the open top bus tour (preferred B line) you can do both routes in 24 hours from when you 1st get ticket stamped. The Catacombs are well worth a visit as is the Naples Archaeological Museum. Herculaneum would be my preference over Pompeii if you have limited time. Caught ferry to Capri and then another ferry to Sorento. Would have preferred just to have spent a bit more time in Sorento. Trains from Sorento to Naples easy. Generally found if easy to get around. Don't forget to sign in and out on the Metro like at home.
This hotel was the grandest hotel I have ever stayed in. You can't really call it a hotel if it's a palace. It was the perfect ending to our 3.5 week trip in Italy. We had seen so many museums and palaces and then we stayed in one . Pictures and words cannot describe how Grand this Hotel was . Only a few rooms in this hotel it was something special. I am totally lost for words. It was like staying in a museum. The room was enormous. The ceilings are WOW !! If you ever stay in Naples this is a once in a lifetime place to stay.
Very neat and comfortable accommodation. The owner of the accommodation is a wonderful, pleasant woman who is ready to help and resolve any requests. Everything you need is in the room. The air conditioner saved us in the days of terrible heat outside! 😄
A huge terrace with deckchairs and a table with a view of Naples and Vesuvius will steal your hearts! ❤️
Near the accommodation there is everything you need: shops, markets, a kiosk with metro tickets, a pizzeria and the tastiest grilled chickens in Italy!)
The breakfast spread was amazing! We were served so many different kinds of pastries, cold cut meats, jams, Nutella, smoked cheese, juices for kids, espresso for me. The room was beautiful with a great view! Location was at the center of many attractions, metro stations, shopping, supermarkets. The owner was super nice and very helpful giving us great advice of places to eat, events happening nearby, popular sites, etc! We visited Italy for 3 weeks and this was probably our favorite hotel that we stayed at!
The room was easy enough to find, look for a small blue sign on the gate post outside where they will meet you on arrival. A short walk to lots of great restaurants and bars, along with amazing shopping.
The breakfast in Italy consists of croissant and coffee - so don’t be expecting anything savoury. This hotel uses a local bar 200 meters away which you take a token to for complimentary coffee and croissant. Tip - just sit down outside they will serve you - show them the voucher when you arrive.
The space is interesting & beautiful. Definitely a great value too! Our host Pina was so available & attentive to any questions. We felt like she's a distant relative wanting us to have the best travel experience. Our room actually had better amenities than many of the hotel rooms through our Italy travels with coffee & tea makers as well as small fridge with cool filtered water waiting : )
It felt like a home from home, with lots of character, lots of art, beautiful views of Naples and all the facilities you could need! The host was incredibly helpful and gave us plenty of info before our stay, she got us breakfast last minute, arranged transport to the port and even continued to help with recommendations over WhatsApp for the rest of our time in Italy - thank you so much <3
Older building that they had totally remodeled to feel very current - but still left some cool touches, like being able to see the old flooring in the ceiling. Most comfortable bed we had across 4 hotels in Italy. The staff was very responsive by way of the Booking app so we had assistance at any time, even though there was no one as the front desk most of the time.
Been travelling in Italy and this was the best hotel we stayed at. I booked the hotel part as I was with my daughter and didn't want her in a hostel. However on floor 3 theres a communal bar with pool table etc where we spent our time. Was so friendly, very safe. Highly recommended, especially for solo travelling.
Gennaro was an amazing host! He cares about his guests and them having a great experience in Naples! He provided the most amazing croissants for breakfast, and the pizza restaurant he sent me to was the best pizza I have had in Italy! Train was tricky to figure out, but convenient to get around on!
Great central location in Naples to visit the city and near the Metro. Adriana communicated with us when needed through WhatsApp (which is common in Italy) and even offered to move us when there was a minor issue with the TV (we didn’t watch it frankly) but wanted to ensure we were happy.
Wonderful! Your apartment in Naples, Italy, truly left unforgettable impressions. The separate shower, toilet, and bidet provided maximum comfort, while the cleanliness and convenient location made the stay even more enjoyable. The photos correspond to reality.
Very modern, couldnt find better hotel in whole South Italy which accepts pets. Great staff, very good parfumes in whole hotel, great design, John Richmond toilleteries! Free shuttle to center. Good menu at restaurant, good breakfast for Italian style.
This is a prime hotel and the staff was so helpful, contentious and always there with a smile, joke or advice. Best customer Service in all of Italy as per our experience! The view off the Terrace is mesmerizing and the whole place is very clean!
Related to Italy commonly continental breakfast it was very good,
Good value for the hotel, It is new with a very clean rooms,
Very helpful and polite personal, we left in the night and they prepared for us a dry food to the route,
This was one of the best hotels during our 3 weeks stay in Italy; very nice rooms ; modern; great shower; nice area ; walking distance from the port and in a beautiful building - recommended !!
After staying in hotels/hostels in other cities in Italy I stayed here and was very happy with it. Very clean place and provide toiletries. It is close to good attractions and restaurants.
it was the best experience I had in south Italy, the hotel make you feel like a special guest. All the amenities were amazing, food was great and all the staff treated tou very nicely .
Excellent host. Helped us with parking, recommendations, and all arrangements. Breakfast was also very nice. Best coffee in Italy. Rooms were clean and comfortable.
